How Riftools Calculates Riftbound Stats
Riftools turns public Riftbound tournament results, decklists, and match data into readable competitive stats. This page explains what the numbers mean, where the data comes from, and when a sample should be treated carefully.
Data sources
Riftools starts from public competitive sources: tournament standings, published decklists, official match records when available, and event pages. Ingestion workflows store the source data first, then published artifacts are rebuilt from that source so public pages read stable snapshots instead of recalculating heavy stats on every visit.
Sets and formats
Stats are separated by set. A Set 3 tournament contributes to Set 3 pages and a Set 4 tournament contributes to Set 4 pages. Deck pages, card hover stats, Meta Decklists, Card Stats, Winrates, Legend Breakdown, and Home must read the set that the tournament was played in.
Decklists
A decklist is counted when Riftools has a parsed list with player, rank or placement, tournament, set, legends, main deck, and sideboard. Some events publish standings before complete decklists; in that case standings and matchup stats can update while card stats wait for decklists.
Matchups and winrates
Matchup winrates use recorded non-mirror matches where both players can be mapped to known legends. Mirror matches are excluded from matchup winrate tables because they do not help compare one legend against another.
Average Score
Average Score is the normalized performance score used across Riftools. It is based on where a legend, archetype, decklist, or card appears in tournament standings for the relevant set. Higher finishes score better than lower finishes, and the score is shown on a 0 to 100 scale so results from different tournament sizes can be compared more easily.
Card stats
Card Stats measure how often a card appears in known decklists and how those decks performed. Play rate is usage inside the filtered decklist field. Conversion and score metrics depend on the standings attached to those decklists, so they are strongest when many lists are available.
Meta Decklists
Meta Decklists groups similar tournament decklists into archetypes. The page is meant to show what is actually performing in tournaments, not a subjective tier list. Low-sample archetypes are separated when there is not enough evidence to treat their result as stable.
Confidence and limits
Riftools shows strong signals when public data is complete and recent. It shows weaker signals when an event has standings but no decklists, decklists but no pairings, a small sample, or incomplete source coverage. Missing public data is not invented.
Why numbers can change
Published snapshots are rebuilt after ingestions, bug fixes, or data cleanup. A number can move when a new tournament is added, when missing decklists are recovered, when duplicate card names are canonicalized, or when an old source is corrected.
